4 Spells To Boost Your Focus & Productivity

Many witches balance a variety of responsibilities like work, family, and education, all while trying to have a meaningful spiritual practice. Lucky for us, witchcraft has spells for any concern or problem you could have. You don’t have to keep your magic separate from your other areas of life. In fact, combining magic with your more mundane tasks can make a big difference in your life.

These four spells are designed to help you become more focused and productive. They only take a few minutes to set up and activate, so you can effortlessly bring magic into your life even when you’re swamped with work.

Vanishing To-Do List Ice Spell

This spell is perfect if you have a long list of smaller tasks to complete. You’ll need to prepare the water for this spell the night before so it has time to freeze.

What You’ll Need:

  • a glass jar (that can withstand cold like a mason jar)
  • salt
  • a coin
  • water
  • a wet-erase marker

Write your to-do list on the side of your jar with the wet-erase marker. Fill the jar with water so that the water line is just above the first task on your list. Be careful not to smudge the marker when you do this.

Place the jar in your freezer overnight.

The next day, take the jar out of the freezer right when you’re ready to get to work. Ideally, your water should be frozen solid.

To activate your spell, sprinkle salt into the jar and drop your coin in. Speak your intention aloud or in your head.

For example:

“As the ice melts and the coin sinks, I move through my to-do list with ease.”

The ice will melt causing condensation on the outside of the jar. This will make your to-do list smudge so it is unreadable and easily wiped away. The coin moves steadily towards its goal (the bottom of the jar). A smooth descent represents you checking things off your list with ease until you finish everything you need to do that day.

When you finish your tasks or the ice melts completely, your spell is complete.

Knights Of Productivity Tarot Spell

This fun spell requires five different tarot cards. If you don’t have your own deck, you can usually find the images on Google and print them out. Another option is to draw these cards on five different notecards. That way you can personalize the imagery and make the characters look the way you’d imagine them.

If you have oracle cards that you feel hold similar energies to the suggested tarot cards, try using those and see what results you get. The images from your oracle cards might feel more powerful to you.

Five Suggested Tarot Cards and Their Meanings:

  • Knight of Swords: Fearless action, quick thinking, focused on achieving a goal as fast as possible.
  • Knight of Pentacles: Steady progress, methodical, the desire to achieve goals in the best way possible even if it means taking the long way.
  • Two of Pentacles: Successfully juggling many tasks and energies, finding the perfect balance.
  • Eight of Pentacles: Success through diligent and intelligent effort, the satisfaction in knowing that your hard work will pay off.
  • The World or the Three of Cups: Completion, celebration, and accomplishment.

Other Objects for Your Altar (Optional):

  • crystals you associate with the energy of productivity such as citrine, pyrite, or carnelian.
  • coins (if the tasks you’re working on will bring you money)
  • a photo of who or what motivates you to be productive (such as a family member, a master’s degree, or funding a trip to South America).

You can arrange your tarot cards in a way that’s visually pleasing to you, but because of the way the card energies work together, you may want to use the following card placement.

Top Row: The World or Three of Cups

Middle Row: Knight of Pentacles, Two of Pentacles, and Knight of Swords

Bottom Row: Eight of Pentacles

If you’re using any additional objects, place those on your altar as well.

To activate your tarot spell, start at the bottom and move up, telling the story of your success. Start with what you have to accomplish, why you’re doing it, and how you’ll find your own way to balance the energy of the two knights. Don’t forget to give your story a happy ending that reflects the energy of The World or the Three of Cups.

I’ve found that telling stories when activating tarot spells gets me great results. It makes sense because tarot reading combines the different energies and meanings of the cards to create a story. You can be creative and playful here. Speak the way you would in a conversation with friends.

For example, I would say something like:

“I have a writing project, an email, and a graphics project to do today, and I know that finishing them will get me closer to affording a security deposit for my dream apartment. Like the craftsman in the Eight of Pentacles, I’m good at what I do, and I always turn in my best work. Like the Knight of Swords, I’m action-oriented in my work, but the Knight of Pentacles will keep me from making mistakes or burning myself out. I always find the perfect balance between the energy of the two knights, and tonight I’ll celebrate my productivity by going out to a movie.”

Touch each card as you mention it in your story and then get to work! Thank your cards for lending their energy once you’re finished.

Earth & Water Jar Spell

This spell works best when performed right before you begin your work for the day.

What You’ll Need:

  • A glass jar
  • A cup of dirt from outside (not from a store-bought bag)
  • A piece of paper and writing utensil
  • A yellow ribbon
  • An athame or something to stir your mixture with
  • Water

Fill a glass jar about a quarter of the way with your dirt. If you collected the dirt during the waxing moon or full moon, that’s even better, but any dirt from outside will work just fine.

Write your intention on a piece of paper. You can use this incantation, or write your own:

“As earth and water separate,

I finish my work before the due date.”

Make a hole somewhere on the paper and thread the yellow ribbon through. Some witches associate the color yellow with completion, success, and accomplishment. If that works for you, go with yellow. If you prefer a different color, use it.

Tie the ribbon around the jar.

Pour water into your jar until it’s about three-quarters of the way full.

Stir the dirt and water mixture until all the dirt appears to be absorbed by the water.

Set your jar on a flat surface and leave it there undisturbed. Because dirt contains different types of matter such as sand, silt, and decomposing bits of plants, the dirt will begin to separate in the water. The parts of the earth that are the densest will sink to the bottom, and you’ll see the other kinds of matter settling in layers throughout the water.

As this happens, it will give you the focus and momentum to move through your tasks in an orderly and stress-free manner.

Pour out your water and dirt outside when your spell is complete. Be sure to say thank you to the elements of earth and water for lending their power to your productivity.

Banishing Stray Thoughts Spell

Many times, it’s a wandering mind that impedes our productivity. Use this spell whenever you want to get rid of any unwanted thoughts and sharpen your focus.

What You’ll Need:

  • A vacuum

Take a couple of minutes to clear off any clutter from your work area. If there’s something distracting on your desk or in your office, put it someplace where you won’t be able to see it.

Get out your vacuum and state your intention aloud or in your head. Come up with your own or use this one:

“I have a clear, focused mind, and I complete all my tasks quickly and thoroughly.”

Turn on your vacuum and tip it to the side so it’s not all the way on the floor. Visualize all of your unwanted and distracting thoughts being sucked up by your vacuum. As you do this, allow your mind to wander. Let it drift to all the thoughts you tend to get distracted by like any ongoing conflicts, what you’ll make for dinner, fun plans for the weekend, etc. Do this for 1-2 minutes, or until you feel like every unwanted thought has been removed from your space. Place the vacuum cleaner outside the room until you finish all your tasks.

Magical Life Hacks

With a little creativity, you can create your own spells to get things done faster without the burnout. Each time you do a spell, approach it with a spirit of curiosity. Add or omit different elements to see what gives you the best results. Words, colors, and intentions can all be personalized. You’ll usually be able to tell pretty quickly what spells seem to work better for you, and those are the spells to keep in your grimoire.

The difference between writing your own spells and using spells found in books or blogs is like the difference between using a recipe from a cookbook and coming up with your own recipes. If you’re not experienced enough in the kitchen, it can be difficult to know how flavors will combine, what you really like in a recipe, and whether the techniques and chemistry behind what you’re doing will actually create the results you hoped for. With experience, however, most home cooks begin to create their own recipes without even thinking about it. It’s just a natural extension of learning what you like and feeling more confident with your skills in the kitchen.

The same is true of witchcraft. Writing your own spells can feel like becoming a beginner again. Suddenly the training wheels are off and it’s very easy to make mistakes that can lead to spell failure or unexpected outcomes, but the benefits for those who persevere are huge.

If you’re not content with simply using other people’s spells, A Primer In Spell Writing is the perfect way to start learning the subtle skills required for crafting your own spells. The course takes you through the entire process from start to finish as we build a spell together from scratch. I’m really passionate about giving witches the freedom and autonomy that comes with being able to write and customize spells to fit YOU so this is easily one of my most in-depth courses. A Primer In Spell Writing is not to be missed!
